Directions from Canberra
Canberra – “Cooradigbee” via scenic route - approximately 1.5 hours
The countryside is magnificent and the drive will be an unhurried pleasure. This back road still has some gravel sections
From Parliament House take Adelaide Ave and head west on Highway 5. Turn left onto the Cotter Rd.
From the Cotter Rd turn right into John Gorton Drive, then after a few kms turning left into Opperman Ave. Then right into Uriarra Rd at the second roundabout travelling along until you cross the Murrumbidgee River.
After Crossing the river veer right across the Swamp Creek and continue along till next “T” intersection at ‘Fairlight Station’ where you turn right onto the Mountain Creek Road.
Keep travelling this road approx 26 Km till “T” intersection with Yass – Wee Jasper Rd and turn left to Wee Jasper.
Keep travelling this road until you cross the Goodradigbee River and into the village of Wee Jasper. 900 meters after crossing the river you will come to a “T” intersection with the school on your right.
Turn Right onto Caves Rd to go to Carey’s Cave and ‘Cooradigbee’. Continue along to where the bitumen ends and there is a “Y” intersection. Veer right across grid with ‘Cooradigbee’ marked on the side. Then take the second track to the right to ‘Cooradigbee Homestead’.
To reach the Shearers Quarters and Cooradigbee Cottage continue straight ahead, do not turn right into the Homestead. Approx 1 Km further you will arrive at the Shearers Quarters and then Cooradigbee Cottage.
Alternatively you can travel via Yass
Yass – ‘Cooradigbee’ approximately -55 minutes
The Wee Jasper Road is sign posted in Yass. It is the first left turn as you come in from the Cooma Cottage direction. You will cross the Murrumbidgee River at Taemas and then Mountain Creek and then finally the Goodradigbee River. Cross the Goodradigbee River into the village of Wee Jasper. 900 meters after crossing the river you will come to a “T” intersection with the school on your right.
To reach the Shearers Quarters and Cooradigbee Cottage continue straight ahead, do not turn right into the Homestead. Approx 1 Km further you will arrive at the Shearers Quarters and then Cooradigbee Cottage.
Or from Tumut
Tumut – ‘Cooradigbee’ approximately 1.25 hours
Entering Wee Jasper from Tumut there are two roads.
The Bombowlee Creek Road (bitumen & gravel) is a forestry road and very busy with large logging trucks. It takes you up through state Forests to the village of Bondo. Approx 2 Km’s past Bondo there is a turn to the left to Wee Jasper (gravel road). Follow the road to its conclusion at a “T” intersection with the Tumut – Wee Jasper Road and turn right follow down the winding road till you come to the Fitzpatrick Trackhead (Hume & Hovell Walking Track) and turn left over the Wee Jasper Creek. -***
The Tumut – Wee Jasper road is mostly gravel taking you through picturesque mountain grazing country. Follow signs to Wee Jasper until you reach the Fitzpatrick Trackhead (Hume & Hovell Walking Track) and turn left over the Wee Jasper Creek. -***
*** Continue for approx 3.8 Km’s and you are entering the village of Wee Jasper with the church and Village Hall on your right. Do not veer to the right, but continue straight ahead onto the Caves Rd passing the school on your right, you are now on the road that leads to Carey’s Cave and ‘Cooradigbee’.
Continue along to where the bitumen ends and there is a “Y” intersection. Veer right across grid with ‘Cooradigbee’ marked on the side. Then take the second track to the right to ‘Cooradigbee Homestead’.
To reach the Shearers Quarters and Cooradigbee Cottage continue straight ahead, do not turn right into the Homestead. Approx 1 Km further you will arrive at the Shearers Quarters and then Cooradigbee Cottage.
When you think you’ve gone too far you are almost there.
